In the 1997 IHSA Maple Park - Kaneland Sectional Meet, the following Kaneland Girls Track and Field individuals and relays qualified to compete at the IHSA State Track and Field Meet, held in Charleston, Illinois. In order to qualify for state competition, place finishers were required to place either first or second in their respective event, or perform at a qualifying time or distance (as defined by the IHSA).
High Jump - Kelly Malone (1st - 5' 0"), Debbie Lang (2nd - 4' 10");
Shot Put - Erika Houtz (1st - 34' 5.25"), Laura Alms (2nd - 33' 4");
Discus - Erika Houtz (1st - 107' 7.5");
300m Low Hurdles -Jenny Baert (2nd - 48.9); and
1600m Relay - JennyBaert, Megan deRaismes, Alex Self, Anna VanNaarden (2nd - 4:16.9).
Additionally, four girls will be selected to participate in the state meet as alternates in the relay event.
Kaneland took fifth place with 16 points, 20 points behind fourth place Sandburg . Hindsale South won the meet with 108 points. Debbie Lang finished fourth in the high jump with 4' 10" and fourth in the 200 meter with 28.8. April App finished fourth in the triple jump with 29' 10". Senior Erika Houtz finished third in the shot put with 30' 3".
Kaneland scored 65 points to finish a strong fourth in the Byron Invitational. The 1600-meter relay team of Megan deRaismes, Christina Palazzolo, Anna VanNaarden and Jenny Baert finished second with a 429.1. Debbie Lang finshed second and Kelly Malone third in the high jump.
Byron had 117 points, followed by Crystal Lake Central with 110 and Marengo with 68.
Jenny Baert finished first in the high hurdles with a time of 9.3 seconds. Finishing fourth in the same event was April App at 9.9 seconds. App also placed fifth in the long jump with 14'6". In the shot put, Maranda Schenk finished 7th with a toss of 29'6". In the high-jump Kelly Malone finished fourth with a leap of 4'10", with Debbie Lang coming in fifth.
Kaneland's girls team scored 57 points to finish fifth in the 12-team invitational. Kaneland's 800-meter relay team of Christina Palazzollo, Melinda Hankes, Anna VanNaarden and Megan deRaismes finished first in 1:57.7. Jenny Baert fished second in 300-meter low hurdles with 50.7. Erika Houtz finished second in the discus with 92-7 and Shelley Behrens 3rd with 85-11.
Due to extremely cold weather, the Oregon meet was canceled. There are no plans to reschedule the meet.
The Kaneland Invitational was canceled due to freezing weather conditions.
In a triangular meet held at Kaneland High School, the girls track team defeated Rockford Christian Life and Yorkville by tallying 64 team points. Rockford Christian Life and Yorkville teams earned 59 and 54 points respectively.

The girls track team earned 2nd place in a triangular meet against Morris and Evergreen Park, accumulating a total of 64 points. Morris and Evergreen Park accumulated 80 and 57 team points respectively.

The girls track team participated in a 16 team invitational on Friday, April 25, 1997. Kaneland athletes scored a total of 25 team points in the effort placing 10th overall. The top five team scorers were Lincolnway, Crete Monee, Lockport, Homewood-Flossmor, and Thornwood, scoring 98, 86, 68, 55, and 50 team points respectively.

In a triangular meet held at home in Maple Park, Kaneland's girls track team scored 52 team points placing second overall. Lemont and Westmont scored 87 and 45 team points respectively.

In the Ram Relays JV Invitational, held at Glenbard East High School, Kaneland girls track team scored 47 points earning them 6th place overall.

The Suburban Prairie Conference Meet girls track and field meet for the White Division was held Friday, May 9, at Kaneland High School. Competing in both the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels were eight schools. Kaneland girls placed fourth overall at the Junior Varsity level and second at the Varsity level.

In the 1997 IHSA Girls Track & Field State Meet, held at Eastern Illinois University, the Kaneland girls state qualifiers proudly represented their school and community. Although Kaneland did not qualify any girls to the finals competition on Saturday, all of the girls performed well. The results for Kaneland were as follows:
