Tennis Team Fundraiser
The Lady Knights Tennis team will hold their annual CAR WASH at the Maple Park Fire Barn this Saturday, September 2nd from 10 a.m. to noon. Eliminate one Saturday chore and let the team hand wash and dry your car! You can even leave your car with us while you visit the festivities across the street at the Maple Park Fun Fest. Your donations for our services are welcomed and will go towards team supplies and uniforms throughout the season.
If you can't make the car wash, the Lady Knights look forward to meeting you at the Maple Park Fun Fest Parade where they will be passing out sports programs. Hope to see you this weekend!

Kaneland 1 - Rosary 6After only four practices the Lady Knights had their first match. The girls played extremely well" said coach Cindy Miller. "I am very proud of these girls today we are stronger and deeper than past years, but still have some things to learn" said Coach Cindy Miller
Kaneland 5 - Marengo 2This was a great match for us. All of our team played well today. Marengo has a nice team but we just had a lot more experience. Kara Miller (#1 singles) and Kelly Hatch (#2 singles) played very smart tennis on a hot day. Our doubles teams dominated the doubles matches. Great performances by Lauren & Nicole, Rachel & Jolene, and Becky & Michelle. JV won and played a good match also.
Kaneland 4 - Oswego 3
Doubles team Rachel Clark and Jolene Gruenke went to a third set bringing in the fourth point with their 6-3, 3-6, 7-4. Although ultimately defeated, duos Amanda Claesson and Lauren Hibbard and Michelle Albrecht and Becky Faber played three tough sets in unbearable heat and humidity against strong opponents. The JV team was just as successful with a 5-3 victory. Second singles Kristina Vallo got her victory with a solid 8-3, as number 3 Becky Hankes did the same with an 8-2. Third doubles Vanessa Troc and Erin Arno smashed their competition 8-0. Fourth duo Shayna Siebens and Tonya Hardy fought a hard, close match winning 6-5. And finally Jennifer Johnson and Chiara Nudo played great tennis winning 6-4. Coach Miller praised, "The girls really beat the odds. They played so well against a very good Oswego team." Kaneland 0 - Wheaton Academy 5The Lady Knights faced a tough loss in their battle again Wheaton Academy losing 0-5. Coach Miller said, "This was a tough match to lose. I've seen us play much better tennis than what we did today." Third singles Kelly Hatch went to three sets after she won her first set 7-5, and lost the second 4-6. Today's loss for the team dropped the varsity record to 1-2 so far this season. The Junior Varsity team had better luck pulling a 3-3 tie. Fourth singles Alyssa Bevans dominated singles play winning 8-4. Both doubles teams scored victories with number one team Rachel Clark and Jolene Gruenke winning 8-5, and second doubles duo Becky Faber and Michelle Albrecht bringing in an 8-4 win. Coach Miller commended today's winners for playing extremely well. Kaneland 7 - Riverside Brookfield 0The Lady Knights were back on track with their sweeping win over Riverside-Brookfield. Every varsity player won their match in just two sets bringing the team's record to 3-2. "Even though conditions were chilly, the girls played well," praised Coach Cindy Miller. Number one Kara Miller won 6-3, 6-4, and second singles Barbara Mnich had a solid 6-1, 6-1. Kelly Hatch, third doubles, had no trouble dominating her competition with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Junior Varsity also had little trouble dominating their opponents winning 8-1 in single set matches. None of the matches went to a second set. Number two singles Kristina Vallo and third singles Becky Hankes both won their matches 8-4. Vanessa Troc and Erin Arno posted an 8-3, and Tabitha Buchwald and Michelle Faber brought in the fourth point with their 6-4. The Emily Schmidt/ Amanda Claesson team, and Tara VandeLinde/Alyssa Bevans duo both won 8-6. Winners Tonya Hardy and Shayna Siebens scored a 5-2, and the team of Jennifer Johnson and Chiara Nudo brought in a 6-2, bringing the JV team's total points to 8. The team is preparing for Thursday's match against Sycamore. Kaneland 0 - Sycamore 7The Lady Knights Varsity Tennis team faced a disappointing loss to Sycamore when they were unable to score. Coach Cindy Miller remarked, "Even though the scores don't show it, we had some great points."Michelle Albrecht and Becky Faber did go to a third set, but ultimately lost to their opponents. Today's loss brought the team's record to 2-3 overall, and 1-1 for conference. The JV team had better luck as they scored two points in their singles lineup. Third singles Becky Hankes won her two set match 7-5, 6-0 using her strong serves to get the edge. Tara VanderLinde, playing 4th singles in a single set match earned the team's second point with a very respectable 8-2. In doubles play, Shayna Siebens and Tonya Hardy went to a third set after playing two tough matches (4-6, 6-3) but ultimately lost 5-7. Coach Jim Butler praised the Siebens and Hardy team for consistently doing a nice job on the court. Today's meet brought the JV team's record to 3-2 overall, and 1-1 in conference. Rosary F-S SquadWest Aurora 13 Kaneland 11 Rosary 9 Montini 3 The Junior Varsity Lady Knights Tennis team placed second overall in the tournament hosted by Rosary. Freshman Kelly Hatch, first singles, and sophomore Kristina Vallo, third singles had the distinction of placing first overall in singles positions. In Round 1 play, Kaneland tied Rosary 3-3. First singles Kelly Hatch earned a solid 6-2, 6-0, and Kristina Vallo, third singles won 6-2, 6-2. Second doubles Becky Hankes and Tara VandeLinde won their hard fought three set match 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Round 2 placed Kaneland against Montini winning 5-1. Kelly Hatch at first singles, blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 as did second singles Elysia Troc. Kristina Vallo playing third singles, won in two sets 6-4, 6-1. In doubles play, first doubles Emily Schmidt and Amanda Claeson brought in point 4 with their 6-3, 6-0 and finally third doubles Vanessa Troc and Erin Arno scored an impressive 6-1, 6-0. Finally, moving to Round 3, Kaneland played West Aurora, traditionally one of the best tennis teams in the state. JV made Kaneland history when they tied West 3-3. Again, strong singles players Kelly Hatch (7-6, 6-3) and Kristina Vallo (6-4, 6-1) secured their place as first in their category with their wins. Third doubles team Vanessa Troc and Erin Arno battled three sets winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-3. The team hopes to keep up their momentum as they face Lemont at home next week. JV also took down their opponents gaining four wins in singles play alone and a fifth in doubles. Elysia Troc, first singles went to a three set match, winning 7-6, 4-6, 7-2. Second Kristina Vallo won her two set match 6-2, 6-2, as did third Becky Hankes, posting a 6-4, 5-4. Darkness hampered the final two matches from going to two sets, but Tara VandeLinde managed to walk away with her single game 6-0. Doubles team Shayna Siebens and Tonya Hardy brought in the final point with a close 4-3 single set. Today's win brought the JV's conference record to 2-1. Kaneland 3 - Yorkville 4Varsity The Lady Knights fell to Yorkville by 1 in their Tuesday's match. Kara Miller, number one singles, fought a long and hard match winning 6-4, 7-5. Barbara Mnich went to a three set match finally succumbing to her opponent 6-0, 3-6, 3-7 and was praised by Coach Miller for playing with a lot of poise. Third singles Kelly Hatch brought in the second point after going to a tough third set, finally winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-6. Lauren Hibbard and Nicole Runde, first doubles brought in the final point after an intense three hour, three set match. Coach Miller remarked that the girls played at their highest level of the season to date and deserved to win their hard fought match.Their final scores were 7-6, 6-7, 6-2. After today's meet, the team's record is at 4-4 and conference record at 2-2. Junior Varsity In Junior Varsity play third singles Becky Hankes played a challenging match winning 9-7 in straight sets. Tara VandeLinde also defeated her opponent 6-3. Number three doubles Michelle Faber and Tabitha Buchwald brought in the only doubles point with a close and hard fought 8-7. However, as Coach Miller noted, the doubles teams had some very close matches and despite not winning, they played tell. Tonight's match brought the JV's record to 4-3 overall, and 1-2 in conference. Kaneland Quad JVKaneland 3 - Lisle 2The Lady Knights picked up another win for their record on Tuesday night when they defeated Lisle 3-2. Second singles Barbara Mnich won with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 as did third singles Kelly Hatch when she blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Second doubles Megan Gruber and Rachel Zimmer also earned a solid 6-1, 6-1 grabbing the third point. Tonight's meet brought the team's match record to 5-4 for the season. JV Kaneland 2 - JV Lisle 3The JV tennis team lost by one game tonight as they each played 8 game pro sets. Becky Hankes, playing third singles won with a strong 8-2. as did number one doubles Emily Schmidt and Amanda Claesson. Rachel Clark and Jolee Gruenke went to three sets winning the first 6-3, losing the second a close 4-6, and the third 4-6. Both teams are gearing up for Thursday's conference match against Elmwood Park. Kaneland 6 - Mendota 1The Lady Knights had another great day on the courts as they captured six wins over their opponent Mendota. Number two singles Barbara Mnich won her two sets 6-1, 6-4, and third singles Kelly Hatch posted a solid 6-2, 6-0 win.
Junior Varsity also won their match 2-1 in single set play. First singles Kristina Vallo defeated her opponent 8-4. Second doubles Shayna Siebens and Tonya Hardy blanked their competition 8-0. Today's game brought the JV record to 6-4, and 2-2 in conference. Kaneland 7 - Elmwood Park 0The Lady Knights walked away with 7 points from their Elmwood

First doubles Emily Schmidt and Amanda Claesson defeated their opponents 8-3 as did number two team Vanessa Troc and Erin Arno with their 8-4. Finally Tabitha Buchwald and Michelle Faber brought in the fifth point with an 8-3. Jim Butler, JV coach noted that the JV is progressing nicely this fall which will contribute to a strong team for the 2001 season. Kaneland 3 - St Francis 4The Lady Knights lost by one in their meet against Wheaton St. Francis. Third singles Kelly Hatch brought in a strong 6-2, 6-2 for the team. In doubles play, number 2 team Rachel Clark and Jolene Gruenke went to three sets winning the last two 7-6, 10-8. Finally, Michelle Albrecht and Becky Faber won their two set match 6-4, 6-2. Today's loss brought the team's record to 7-5. The JV Lady Knights played straight sets and lost 1-4. Third singles Becky Hankes brought in the single win for Kaneland, defeating her opponent 5-1.
