Genoa Kingston 5-28

In the Lady Knights' first game of the season, Kaneland out hit Genoa Kingston 8-5 but 20 Kaneland walks led to the loss. "We came in a little rusty and nervous," said coach Erik Lentz. "We played on a field that wasn't really in good sharp and that didn't help".

Kim Washburn walked in the first and came in to score Kaneland's first run of the year on Melissa Gehrke's triple. Mandy Haugen had a big day with the bat going 2 for 3 scoring a run in the fifth, on a triple by Janelle Frye.

Sandwich 1-12

Mandy Haugen scored the Knights only run on a great hustling play, coming all the way home on an infield error. Beth Boss pitched an outstanding no-hit game for the Indians.

East Aurora 20-7

Kaneland won their first softball game of the year trouncing East Aurora 20-7. Staci Testin had four hits and two RBI's. Kim Washburn and Janelle Frye each had 2 hits and 2 RBI's for the Knights first win of the season.

"That win felt really good," Janelle Frye said after the game. "We kept our heads up and we were able to close them out."

Senior Kindra Schumacher, the workhorse of the pitching staff. Whatever the conditions: sunny, cloudy, hot or cold, Kindra always appeared in sweatshirt and sunglasses!

Aurora Christian 15-16

Kaneland took an 11-2 lead into the third inning but ended up losing by one run. With three innings to play Kaneland still maintained a 14-8 led. But 10 walks helped AC come back into the game.

"That was a tough loss for us to swallow," stated Janelle Frye.

Minooka 1-15

Minooka scored nine times in the first inning to send Kaneland to 1-5 season record. But the Lady Knights rebounded with a double play in second and a triple play in third. Janelle Frye hit the teams first home run of the season for Kaneland's only run.

Hampshire 6-16

Kaneland got behind early and couldn't quite come back against Hampshire. Kim Washburn and Leslie Flint both went 2-for-3 and Janelle Frye added a double and 2 RBI's.

Sycamore 8-11

Kaneland jumped out to an early lead, but got out scored 9-0 in the late innings to drop a tough game against Sycamore. Kim Washburn went 3-4, Melissa Gehrke went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Janelle Frye went 2-4 with 3 RBI's to lead the Knights.

Yorkville 2-17

Kaneland game up too many runs early to lose a sloppily played game to Yorkville. Kim Washburn went 1-3 with 2 stolen bases and Mandy Hauger went 1-3 with an RBI.

Batavia 1-7

Batavia took an early lead and held it, in a well played game by both teams. Kim Washburn went 2-3 with a stolen base and Melissa Gehrke stole 2 bases to lead the Knights.

Kim Washburn handled the duties at shortstop, and throws out the batter at first.

Oregon 20-14

Kaneland took the lead in the top of the sixth inning and held Oregon scoreless the rest of the way to claim the non-conference victory. Kim Washburn went 3-4 with 8 stolen bases and Janelle Frye, Melissa Gehrke, and Mandy Piscitelli had 3 RBI's each to lead the Knights.

Oswego 2-8

Oswego held on to an early lead to win a well played game by both teams. Melissa Gehrke went 1-3 with 2 RBI's to lead the Knights.

Oswego 0-21

The Panthers recorded their first victories of the season winning both games of the doubleheader against Kaneland taking the second game 21-0.

Lemont 0-4

Chmeleski threw a 5 inning perfect game for Lemont. This was the best defensive game Kaneland has played thus far.

Rockford Boylan 2-9

Kaneland had a tough 4th inning, to drop a game closer than the final score appeared. Melissa Gehrke went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI to lead the Knights.

Leslie Flint dives back to 1st base just in time.

Batavia 5-12

Kaneland got down 12-1 and tried to rally in the last inning, but fell short in a game played with an odd line-up due to the Prom. Janelle Frye and Kim Washburn went 2-3 for the Knights.

Rochelle 4-15

Kaneland had a tough 1st inning and could not climb back into contention. Kelly McGinnis went 1-1 with a triple and RBI to lead the Knights.

Plainfield 0-27

Kim Washburn and Leslie Flint both went 1-2 to account for Kaneland's lone two hits.

Minooka 5-15

Kaneland struggled defensively in a 5 inning loss. Kim Washburn, Jenelle Frye, and Melissa Gehrke all went 2 for 3 for the Knights.

Sycamore 0-10

Kaneland got behind early and couldn't catch up due to a strong pitching performance by Sycamore. Melissa Gehrke went 1-2 for Kaneland's lone hit.

Batavia 1-16

Wow - Batavia scored 16 runs on only 1 hit as Kaneland gave up 16 unanswered runs after jumping off to a 1-0 lead. Melissa Gehrke went 2-2 and Kim Washburn went 2-3 with 2 stolen bases to lead the Knights.

Yorkville 2-12

Mandy Piscitelli had a home run for Kaneland, which trailed by only 3-2 until the Foxes scored six runs in the bottom of the forth inning. Melissa Gehrke, Leslie Flint, and Mandy Piscitelli all went 1-2. Piscitelli's home run was her first of the year.

Geneva 3-13

Geneva broke open a close game in the top of the 7th to beat Kaneland in game 1. Kim Washburn went 3-4 with 3 stolen bases and melissa Gehrke and Lesslie Flint each went 2-3 for the Knights.

With the 3 stolen bases Washburn broke her own school single season record of 32.

Geneva 1-4

Geneva scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on to a 4-1 win. Mandy Haugen went 2-3 and Melissa Gehrke went 1-2 with 2 stolen bases to lead the Knights.

Plainfield 3-4

Kaneland Lost a thrilling game when Plainfield scored with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th inning after Kaneland tied the game in the top of the 7th. This was undoubtedly Kaneland's best effort of the the year.

Kim Washburn went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Many Piscitelli went 2-3 to lead the Knights. Kinora Schumacher yielded only 1 earned run and didn't give up a hit between the 3rd and 7th innings.

The long bus ride to Morris finds Kindra Schumacher, Leslie Flint and Mandy Haugen expressing their sense of humor - which they needed.

Morris 0-10

Kaneland lost the first game of a double header when Kim Mackinson threw a no-hitter for Morris. Kindra Schumacher game up only 2 earned runs.

Morris 0-23

Kaneland was shutout in the second game of the double header. The Knights were out hit 18-1 with Kim Washburn getting the lone Kaneland hit for the day. Kaneland Varsity softball ended the season with a 2-26 record and 0-14 in the conference.

Regional preliminary vs Harvard 7-9

In the preliminary round of the state regionals, Kaneland lost to Harvard 9-7 to close out the season. The Knights fought back from a 6-1 deficit a to tie the game at six, going into the last inning. But, then gave up three runs in the top of the seventh. Kim Washburn went 2-3 with 3 RBI's and Melissa Gehrke, Amanda Jackson and Leslie Flint all went 2-4 to lead the Knights.
