|
Kaneland closed out their season with a sectional loss to I.M.S.A. 0-3. The Knights finished the season 4-9-2.
The Knights traveled to Sycamore Thursday to be handed an offensive power play by the stronger Sycamore team. The Spartans outshot the Knights 16-10 but with better results against Goalkeepers. The Knights only score came from C.J. Hare with an assist from Seth Pattinson.
The Knights open their first round of sectional play at IMSA on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The Knights Boys Soccer hosted Plainfield Tuesday afternoon. Knight defense held thier opponents to only four shots on goal the first half while the Knights shot 13 times and put three past their keeper. The first half saw Andy Smith take a feed from Ryan Irving to head the first one in the goal. Jeff Jordan pushed
the next score past the defense and into the net. Andy Smith came back with long distance goal to finish the half.
The second half saw Adam Clark and Jeff Jordan both find the back of the net with 60 seconds of each other at the 55-56 minute mark. The final score came from John Kailukaitus with assists from Andy Smith, Seth Pattinson, and Adam Clark for an old Goal-Keeper Razzle-Dazzle.
Plainfield scored three times the second half. One on a corner kick, one off a penalty kick and the last on a one-on-one situation. Kaneland outshot their opponents 26-19.
The Kaneland Boys Soccer team shut out Marengo Thursday at Marengo. The Knights took control of the game early limiting the Marengo offense to only 10 shots near the goal. First half scores came from Eric Griesinger, Brandon Gebhauer, Matt Schoonover, and JJ Hill with assists from Jason Atkins, Matt Baier, and John Kailukaitus.
Second half scores cam from John Kailukaitus, Ryan Irving, Aaron Berkland, and JJ Hill with assists from Aaron Berkland, John Kailukaitus and Adam Clark.
The Knights hosted Elmwood Park on Wednesday at Kaneland. Elmwood Park scored early at the 6:36 mark. Kaneland's Andy Smith took a goal kick from Kaneland keeper JJ Hill into the opposing net at 9:13. Kaneland's Keith Neumann scored unassisted at the 18:20 mark. Elmwood Park answered right back to tie the game.
At 23:53, Matt Schoonover sent Eric Griesinger a pass that he tipped into the goal. Not to be outdone, Marc Schoonover, Matt's younger brother sent teammate Adam Clark a pass that he put past the keeper. Score at the half, Kaneland 4 and Elmwood Park 2.
The second half caught Seth Pattinson assisting Edgar Alvardo in an easy score at the 8:23 mark. Starting Kaneland keeper JJ Hill played a forward position the second half and put one past the opposing keeper three minutes later. Elmwood Park answered with a penalty kick and a far post tip in past Kaneland keepers Matt Baier and Ben Garcia.
Outstanding play came from the freshman and sophomore players. Playing a large majority of the time, they were able to contain the Elmwood Park offense and maneuver past their defense. Sophomore Seth Pattinson did an excellent job in containing a strong offensive opponent.
On Monday afternoon the Knights hosted Newark in a rain soaked field. Newark scored at the 4:07 mark and again on a penalty kick at 36:34. The Knights played hard through the down pours of rain and put on an excellent offensive and defensive battle. Standing water on the Newark defense side hampered Knight offensive action with many near scores.
The Knight soccer team traveled Saturday morning to Burlington. Burlington outshot the Knights 28-22 during the game and was ahead at the half 2-1.
Kaneland's only goal of the first half came from an Eric Griesinger corner kick to JJ Hill who completed the play. The second score came at the 12:30 mark of the second half with a CJ Hare throw in to Eric Griesinger for the score. Knight keeper Matt Baier played a strong defense in the net, missing two penalty kicks while saving another.
All in all, the Knights are playing well together with real improvement in ball control skills and handling.
The Knights hosted Malta Thursday afternoon at Kaneland. The teams battled the wind throughout the first half to a scoreless tie. Malta started the second half with two quick scores past relief freshman goalkeeper Ben Garcia.
Seth Pattinson answered with a well fought and hard kicked ball past the Mustang keeper. The last twenty minutes were a defensive battle with Kaneland outshooting Malta two-to-one. Back-up keeper Matt Baier held the Mustangs scoreless during his 60 minutes of play time while the starting keeper, JJ Hill is out for injury.
Sycamore showed their power with three first half goals against keeper JJ Hill. The Knights came back at the six minute mark of the second half with a score by Seth Pattinson and assist by Adam Clark. At the 20:59 mark Adam Puttkammer scored on a penalty kick.
Outstanding play came from replacement keeper Matt Baier, Jeff Jordan, and Knight offense and defense.
The Knight JV team was at home, playing on their new soccer field, Monday afternoon taking on the Hinkley Royals. Ryan Irving scored on a penalty kick 20 minutes into the first half. The second half saw Matt Schoonover come alive with two goals with assists by Ryan Irving and Andy Smith. The final score of the game came from Edgar Alvardo with an assist from Seth Pattinson.
Kaneland started sophomore Goalkeeper Matt Baier who had 10 saves in the first half and senior keeper JJ Hill in the second half with 12 saves. The Knight defense and midfield played a straight on ballgame limiting the Royal offense.
Serena played a very aggressive first half outscoring the Knights 4-0. Kaneland was able to adjust their line and hold Serena while Seth Pattinson was able to score.
The Kaneland Boys Soccer Program, in their second season, were on the field Saturday in 90 degree heat for two hours and fifteen minutes. The Knights have now taken two of their three games through double overtimes and penalty kicks.
This match was against Stillman Valley in the Central Tournament. Kaneland scores were by Seth Pattinson and Ryan Kasper to even the score from either team. It took a series of ten penalty kicks on the Kaneland Keeper JJ Hill before Stillman Valley defeated the Knights.
Kaneland finished 6th in the tournament.
Kaneland came out early scoring only 3 1/2 minutes into the game. The second score came at the 28 minute mark. Oregon defense took over from there enabling their forward to score four straight scores.
