Season Preview

Coach: Roy Smith (three years)

1999 record: 4-10-2 (last year, the team played a combination varsity and junior varsity team; in 2000 Kaneland will have both a varsity and junior varsity team).

Key player losses: Goalkeeper J.J. Hil, who graduated and is attending the University of Cincinnati on a soccer scholarship, and Keith Neumann, defender.

Key players returning: Forward Eric Griesinger, midfielder Andy Smith, and defender Ryan irving.

Promising newcomers: Chris Feldott, goalkeeper; forward Bart Gruber; and Sean Huggins, who is a transfer student.

This year's expectations: With a relatively new soccer program that's splitting into a full varsity and junior varsity schedule this year, it's hard to predict records, Smith said. "I hope we can improve a lot on last year; I want to be at least a 500 team."

2000 RESULTS

Burlington Central Tournament

Round 1
August 26, 2000
Kaneland Boys Varsity vs. Oregon

Kaneland traveled to Burlington-Central to play Oregon in the first round of the tournament on Saturday morning.

Kaneland answered an early score with two quick returns to lead 2-1 at the half.

Oregon entered the second half with two unanswered scores on goal keepers Matt Baier and Chris Feldott. The forwards avenged the scores with one of their own from 30 yards out to tie the game at 3.

The intensity of this Kaneland team in front of th goal appears to be a strong factor in the game.

Kaneland 3     Burlington Central 5

The second half was all Rocket power as the Central team came back with an early Penalty Kick score and two more goals to finish out hte game. Strong defensive performances came from sophomore Ryan Irving and midfield performance by Andy Smith and Jeff Jordan.

Round 3
August 31, 2000

The Knights continued tournament play at Central with a match against Elgin Academy Thursday afternoon. First half play was dominated by the Knights with a strong offensive effort, control in the midfield and an unforgiving defense.

First half scores came from Seth Pattinson, Eric Griesinger and Chris Feldott with assists by Kyle Kainz, Matt Schoonover and Andy Smith. Goalie Chris Feldott (freshmen), playing a mid-field position, paid the price for his first score for the varsity team this year with a trip to the doctor to stitch up his chin after his score.

In the second half the Knights continued their play on the field with scores from Ryan Anderson (assist by Andy Smith), Edgar Alvarado (assist by Jeff Jordan) and two unassisted goals by Kyle Kainz and Jeff Jordan to finish out the game at 7-0.

Kaneland 2     Westminster Christian 2
Round 4
September 2, 2000

Knights take 3rd in the Burlington-Central Tournament!! The Knights played Westminster Christian High School to a sweltering tie Saturday afternoon. The Warrior defense kept the Knight offense on their toes the whole game while the Knight defense answered Warrior attacks with an equal intensity.
