I came across your website tonight while working with my sports terminal.com page. This has been a lot of fun. I graduated from Kaneland in '72 and played football there my last year. I have known about the great success that the Knights have enjoyed and I also know that you are off to great start in 2000. My name is Jeff Leffelman and my entire family graduated from Kaneland after I did. Enough of that. Your website is fantastic!!!!

My girls attend Queen Anne's High School in Centreville,MD. I do PA work for the Lion's stadium events and that is a lot of fun for me. Our Lion's went 9-2 last year and made it to the state playoffs for the first time since early 80's. That was a huge thrill for us. We start our 2000 campaign this Friday and there are some good returnees and some more great expectations for this year. Did P.J. Fleck go to Northern Illinois? Is he playing football for them?

Go Knights!!
Jeff

Congratulations on win #1 Kaneland Varsity!

It is great to follow Kaneland football from my Manhattan apartment computer. Thank you for the great web site.

BTW - I am looking forward to seeing Russell Flanders name added to the roster. I print it out to hang on the wall in my office.

Hello ... Anyone remember the early 70's? How about when the graduation class of '71' or '72' (can't place which) put the VW bug on the school roof? This was back when football was only played during the day as there must have been a problem getting power out into that corn field. And soccer? Well, soccer was only for P.E. Now I help coach a soccer team and my son plays goalie and forward. He holds a league record for the most headers into the goals. Anyone that remembers this ole 'Sugar Grove' boy and wants to contact me just send email to: krons@chesapeake.net.

Hi, this is Kim Washburn, you probably remember me from kaneland softball (graduate 97). I was just wondering if you can tell me the current stolen base record (if i still hold it at 38). I hope that the current coaches aren't counting passed balls as stolen bases :-) because I didn't ! THANKS! And also at the bottom of the '97 page is says that I made 1st team all-conference, but I also made 1st team all area. :-) thanks. P.S. Who is the coach now? Maybe i should ask him for a copy of the school records for each category. I don't think that coach Lentz entered any of our info from our season when he coached senior year.

Thanks,
Kim Washburn

Hi Kaneland,
I was sitting here thinking that it's been awhile since I checked up on my old school. I see that you've been busy with the web design. It looks great!!!!! For those of you who don't know me. I graduated in "82", my sister Cindy (Grad. 79) lives in Washington. Some of you heard of my older brother Robert (Chris) Leming getting killed while he slept. I'm happy to say that after 2 trials, the woman that shot him is in Prison for the next 51 Years. I haven't been back to Elburn in the past 5 years. I've been here in Nashville Tn. working for the Sheriffs Office for the past 6 ½ Years. I enjoyed reading the letters and remembering some of the names of the teachers that are still there. It brings a smile to my face :-) just to Think of some of the things that we as a class did during the years together. If anyone knows when our next class reunion is, Please let me Know. I will continue to check the web page, keep up the Great Job.. If any of you Class of 82ers read this please e-mail me, at least just to say Hi.

Long live Knight Football...

Well, its been almost 3 years since I've walked the halls of Kaneland, and for what its worth, I miss the place. With graduation looming in the not-so-distant future, I thought I would toss up a quick note.

I moved away from Kaneland on January 20th, 1997. I thought it couldn't be that bad, but let me tell you, Murphysboro, IL is no paradise. ;-) hey, the people are not that bad, but the scenery leaves a little to be desired...

Things around here stay pretty consistent. I will graduate this year on June 1st, with a class size of ( give or take ) 200. I'm still a " band nerd " but at least now I'm playing quads in one of the best drumlines in So. IL. in a band roughly 97 members strong. check out < http://home.globaleyes.net/jdavis > for more info on that.

The people down here are great, a little more cenacle and sarcastic, but other than that, not bad at all. However, I'd like to get in touch with those in my class who still remember me ! If anyone of you guys read this, drop me a line ! Or use ICQ/AIM to get ahold of me, i'm on in the evenings if I'm home long enough.

In the meantime, I'll catch you cats on the flipside

Dear Kaneland,
Hey this is Sarah Diller and Breanna Davis, and we were visiting this sight, and thought we would let everyone know how it has been at school. Well, Sarah is going to SIU, and Breanna is going to Western Michigan University. Well, Sarah is having a great time down at SIU, and is in the Delta Zeta sorority. Breanna too, is in the Delta Gamma sorority. So we all know they are learning those life lessons taught by Mr. Pedersen. We would like the teachers to know that they did teach us well, and value their work greatly.

Well, the first semester was hard being away from the familiar faces and places, and now we are settled in and having a great time. So far, neither of us have been arrested, so we are doing good. Well, Kaneland Knights, good luck with the sports and everything. Class of 99, hope that everyone is doing alright. And thank you class of 99 for all of the memories.

Here is our emails. Breanna's:x99davis5@wmich.edu Sarah's: Sarah_Gator@yahoo.com

Hi Everyone,

Remember me? Vicki Mansfield, Well I only be gone for a year but I really do miss all the people at Kaneland High School! You guys are everything to me and I am sorry that I did not relize that until I was gone. I now live many states away, I am going to school at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. If I have any advise to you, it is, don't come to this school, the four corners is not the place to be. Now the place I call home is Phoenix, AZ, and here is a little more advise, don't go there either it is too hot! I wish I was back in Elburn! My thoughts are always with you guys.

As reading the history page, I couldn't help but remember the 1976 team that I was a member of, we went 7-1-1 and missed the Little Seven Conference title and the playoffs by 1/2 game because of the tie. There was no tie-breaker system then.

Throughout the rest of the 70's though the Kaneland teams usually had losing seasons and I could understand how this one season might get lost in all the losing seasons before and after '76. In the three years preceding my senior year in 1976, I think we had won a total of 5 games. Pretty sad!

But we turned it around in '76 and had a great year with lots of talent on the team. Our '76 lines were anchored by two huge tackles, Mike Jorgensen and Tony Klusak (huge for then). The backfield was Sr. Jim Morris at QB, Jr. Steve Fredrickson at RB, Sr. Gary Pesina at RB and Sr. Marty Lyle at FB. We were predominately a running team and only passed 10-12 times a game. In today's terms, I guess we were a smash-mouth football team. If I remember correctly, we had 7 players that made first team all-conference and 1 player (Marty Lyle) made first team all-conference on both offense and defense.

Anyway, thought you might like to know about one season where we at least came close to making the playoffs.

Thanks

This is Emily and Amy! Remember us? We enjoy this web page to keep up on the sports we played in high school-such as VOLLEYBALL, CROSS COUNTRY, and track. We also enjoy looking at the stuff on the sports we didn't play, but should have, like football. We think that there needs to be more pictures of Mr. Drendel on this page though.

We are very proud of the Cross Country teams 9th place finish in state and we wish the football team lots of luck!!

Dear Kaneland Fans,

I have become somewhat of a Kaneland football fan. I'm from Johnston City, Ill. (home of the Indians), and I try to go to the football championship games (1A-4A) each year. If the J.C. Indians get beat out, I generally follow the team from the 3A southern region.

In '97 that team was Harrisburg and I thought they had a legitimate chance to win the championship; they have a very good coach in Al Way. Then I saw the best high school football team that I have ever seen. The only reason Kaneland didn't win the 4A championship is because they played in 3A. I've been following Kaneland in the local newspaper when I can and I see that you are undefeated again this year.

I'm supporting Nashville from this area this year but I'm looking forward to seeing Kaneland again at Normal. If they are close to as good as last year I expect them to repeat as champs.

Good luck in your game against Spring Valley Hall and if Nashville loses their semifinal I will be supporting Kaneland all the way. Keep up the winning tradition at Kaneland and I will enjoy visiting your website.

A new Kaneland Knight fan,
Bruce Morneweg

I would like to say that the Knights site is one of the best school sites I have seen. As a graduate of Kaneland in 1984 it is great to see some hometown news.

After 1984 I joined the Coast Guard and have not had the opportunity to see much from the hometown area. My job skill keeps me on the coast and Virginia is too far from Illinois. Go Knights!

Hi. you don't know me, but I just did a ton of web searching and I found your page and since there is no guest book i decided to write a message. Okay, I understand Mr Hibbeler is going to be the new vocal music instructor at your high school. Well, he left my school (Morrison) to come teach there. I guess you could say I am a little bit resentful of his decision, but I know its for the better so I have decided to move on.

The main point of this message is to let you know how truely lucky you are to have Mr H. teaching you. Really, if I got into describing it I would 1, start crying and 2, run out of room. There really aren't enough words. And, when Mr H. came to our school, some people weren't too accepting.. boy what fools we were!

So, to end this babbling, I am going to say that we got this lecture at least 20 times from him before he left. 'Every teacher teaches chours different' So basically, give him a chance. Trust me, you will not regret it

Thank you ---

Dizzying changes at KHS over the last 19 years. Frank (KHS freshman) and Jackie (6th grade) Dorneden kept me up on the school until I found the website--now I don't have to wait for Christmas to hear about you!

Beamed with alumni pride during last fall's football championship (I missed going downstate as a cheerleader with the 1977 sweet 16 team - we lost to Aurora Central Catholic in basketball, remember?)

Living near Kalamazoo, Michigan still playing softball - raising Kyle (8) and Patrick (7) with husband Dennis. Using my degree from ISU in sales for Corporate Travel/Meeting Planning - seeing the world and missing good ole Elburn. Fond memories of teachers Sylvia Flint, Judy Jobe, George Birkett, Joan Wilkins, Jim Butler, Jill Holmes, Steve Kusner, Bill Black and Bob Pederson. My senior year was Coach Thorgy's first year at Kaneland!

Thanks for the ride down memory lane.

Keep up the good website.

Again thank you all for the wonderful experience in helping me make the right career change. Mr. Bertrand and Mr. Thorgesen, thank you both for the references on my behalf! Mike Bower

Hello. David Motzenbecker here. AKA "Motz" Kaneland Class of 1988. I was sitting up here in the great white north thinking about all the fun I had and all the teachers & friends I miss from HS. I'm currently living in Minneapolis. I've been up here since 1994. It's a great city!

Summer's up here are unbeatable. Don't think you'll catch me coming back anytime soon. Although I'm very interested to know if the class of '88 will be having it's 10 year (Oh my Lord!!!, has it been that long?) reunion next yr? If so, who's organizing it, details, etc. Please send them to me!!!! I'll be there.

Great web page! Does the school have a generic web page as well or is it all just for sports? I'd like to email some teachers or just find out about other activities the school has going on in addition to sports.

I'd like to send a big hello out to Mrs. Ferdinand if you're still around. Miss you terribly and would really like to chat with you at length sometime. And a lovely good-day to Ms. Bonnie Bray.....music, music, music, what will I ever do without you? And I used to think choir was only for the lame & the weak. Ahhhhh, how wrong I was and boy am I glad.

Well, I've blathered on long enough. If any old friends & teachers get to read this drop me a line or give me a call...would LOVE to hear from you.

Sincerely,
David M. Motzenbecker

I finally got netscape on my computer at work so I got to read your Web Page. I like it! Love to see Marty's name, too. I made a copy and brought it home for him.

How about a word or two on the State Indoor Meet that was held April 5 in Champaign that Marty and Shaun Kramer attended. I could put that in his scrap book, too!!

Thanks,
Yvonne Keifer

I just browsed around the Knight's home page. It was really neat to be able to see how my little brother is doing in football even though I am at school. I would, however, like to see some information about the cheerleaders and poms. Maybe tell who is on the squad, who the captians are, and give a picture of the squads. Will there eventually be a place to get information about Kaneland alumni? I would appreciate a short response to this message. Thank you, Andrea Headley, class of 96

I think the Kaneland Knight defense is a great example of TEAM D!! The guys play together and never put their heads down. There are some young kids doing a great job and some seniors stepping up as well. I think we owe it all to the defensive coordinator-Coach Kearney. He is the guy who puts it all together in practice and puts us in the right place to make the play.We never think the other team is better than us because we go harder than they do every play.Even when the offense fumbles or throws a pick we run out on to the field and do our best to get the ball back.Overall the defense is the main reason we have a 6-2 record and playoff bound. We play our hardest because we never want to let coach Kearney down and we take pride in it. We still don't have a shutout and will do our best to get coach one this week at Westmont because he deserves it for all the help and time he has put into this TEAM!!!!

My name is Jason Carver, I am a Kaneland Alum, and also a former member of the Knights football squad. As a former Knight I would like to extend congradulations out to Coach Thorgesen and Coach Kearney on an outstanding football season. It is great to see a school like Kaneland, which for years suffered seasons of heartbreak in the mighty Little Seven Conf, finally mature into one of the truly dominating teams in the Fox Valley area. Coach T. and Coach K. are to men who exlimplfy what high school football is all about. They bring heart to a game that at times can be heartless. They coach with the emotion that is neccassary to motivate their young players into the fierce competitors that we see on Friday nights. It is these two men that devote hours upon hours to the game of football, so that we may get 60 minutes of pure enjoyment come game time. It is great to see that finally, after years of heartache, they are reaping the benefits that they deserve. The play-offs are just a catalyst to the ultimate goal of Kaneland football, a State Championship! To the players, thank you for an excellent year. Your success is something you, as well as the community, can always be proud of. Take pride in what it means to be a Knight, when you're gone you will realize what a special place Kaneland is.

Jason Carver

Just happened to do a search on the area I grew up in and found the Kaneland Knights page. Being a Webpage Designer myself I found the site to be very nicely done. Of course, I might be a bit biased as I graduated from Kaneland way back in 1968. Looking at the coaches I only recognized one name , Jill Holmes( and, I guess was somewhat surprised considering how long ago I attended Kaneland). I live a ways from there now, Bemidji, MN and have only been back twice. I do think of Kaneland HS with fond memories. I look forward to more of the Kaneland's Webpages.

hey .. this is ken nance.. I used to goto kaneland.. I move last year after spring break.. I am a senior now at Clinton High School about three hours south of there... I just was going through the pictures and stuff... the kaneland football team played great this year.. I played right up there with Morris.. in which could have easily been a win.. and the loss to Yorkville was a disaster.. Offense was off key I hear.. I was gonna be the quarterback probably and so it upsets me not playing for you guys.. I really just wanted to say.. I am not sure if maybe Mr. Drendel is in charge.. but tell him I said "HI".. I think I told Paul Aspengren to do that though. You know moving down here, I got something everybody always wished for there.. all I heard at Kaneland was how bad the building was, which really wasnt that bad.. but I know Kaneland students wanted more money, and here in Clinton, they have money for the school... but it's the people that really mold kaneland. I cant even start to compare the difference of people down here. Kaneland was really a much better school. The staff puts more effort into teaching.. and being a friend, you cant find people like Mr. Drendel, Mr. Thorgason, Mr Green, and almost all of the staff. Kaneland is a much better school. and I would give anything if I could have this year to do over, at kaneland :).. well anyway.. I dont even know who is going to get this, but say hi to everyone, and good luck with everything :)

Ken - 97

What a great page! It enables me to follow Kaneland Sports all the way from Europe!!! I thought it would be nice for all of you to know that your pages are not only read throughout the country, but also overseas. Sure brings back many good memories about my time at the highschool. As an AFS student I graduated back in 1985 (gee - time is running....) and was a member of the Cross Country and Track team. I will certainly browse through these pages every once in a while and definitely keep my fingers crossed for all the teams. If someone reading this - alumni, staff, or teacher - remembers me, then I would be very happy about every email. I will certainly answer back. For now, so long from Switzerland Hans
