Game 9: Kaneland 55 Westmont 7

It was 35-0 before the first quarter was over and score could have been 100-0 if coach Joe Thorgesen wanted it too, but by mid-way through the second quarter he had most of his starters on the bench and mercifully the running clock was in effect for the entire second half.

For game details see David and Goliath.

Game 8: Kaneland 35 Herscher 7

It was an absolutely beautiful evening for a football game until out of nowhere it begun raining midway through the sophomore game. But by the start of main event the rain had disappeared and so did Herscher as the Knights scored in every quarter for a 35-7 victory and a conference championship.

The Herscher Tigers could move the ball between the 20's most of the night. But when it really counted they couldn't break the goal line, until midway through the third quarter.

The Knights scored twice in the first quarter and game was never in doubt thereafter.

For game details see There's no place like Home-coming.

Game 7: Kaneland 49 Elmwood Park 6

It was like driving a car on a icy road. It took the Knights awhile to get started, but once they did, nothing was going to stop them as they slid right pass Elmwood Park 49-6.

Kaneland scored four TD's in the second quarter for a 35-0 halftime lead. By 7:04 in the third quarter the running clock kicked in.

It was a beautiful fall afternoon for football, as the undefeated Knights scored in the 40's for the 5th time this year in 7 tries and improved their state leading winning streak to 21. Only a fourth quarter Tiger touchdown ruined a totally enjoyable day for the Knights.

For details see It was all in a days work.

Game 6: Kaneland 41 Yorkville 14

On a raw and rainy night with lots of slipin' and slidin' goin' on the Knights handed the Foxes from down south their worst beating of the year 41-14.

P.J. Fleck caught about 6 million passes of which 5 were incredible. Kyle Schrader took care of the ground game while the Knights defense was impressive again with the exception of 2 exceptional runs by super back Derrick King.

There were many heroes for Kanland in this one as the Knights slushed their way to their 20th straight win, the longest winning streak in the state.

For the details read It was a wet one.

Game 5: Kaneland 20 Ridgewood 19

The Knights high octane offense sputtered big time on this windy Saturday afternoon at Ridgewood high school. With a just two minutes left in the game Billy McKeown caught a short pass over the middle and scampered 29 yards for the tying score. Josh Dimitri then kicked the winning point after.

The Rebels drove down to the Knights 30 yard line and like last year attempted a field goal for the win with just 5 seconds left, but it fell short.

Not only were 20 points the lowest point total for a Kaneland team since the Morris game exactly one year ago, but the offense gave up 9 points to the Rebels, while only scoring 13 themselves, with the defense accounting for the other touchdown.

For the details on this exciting game see Too Close for Comfort.

Game 4: Kaneland 30 Evergreen Park 13

The Kaneland Knights started out nearly perfect in the first quarter leading 14-0 while holding the Evergreen Park Mustangs to minus yardage. Actually Kaneland had everything their way until 1:51 left before half time as they had a 17-0 lead and had held EP to a minus 16 yards.

But the Mustangs marched 60 yards in 8 plays to score with just 6.2 seconds left in the half to change the whole character of the game.

For more details see Mustangs Challenge the Knights.

Game 3: Kaneland 42 Lemont 21

The Lemont Injuns scored three touchdowns to become the first team to score against the Knights in a regular season game since Ridgewood did it in the fifth game of the 1997 season. The streak was broken in the second quarter stopping the Knights shutout string at 21 quarters.

The game was never in doubt with the Knights keeping the lead between 21 to 14 points all night as they scored what is becoming their standard - 42 points. P.J. Fleck had a super game with ten receptions for 173 yards, three touchdowns and two key fourth quarter interceptions.

For the details see Injuns End Shutout String.

Game 2: Kaneland 42 Sycamore 0

Holy Cow!!! Knights down the Sycamore Spartans by a identical score of last weeks game against Marengo, 42-0. So after 2 games against quality teams the Knights start the season scoring a total of 84 points while pitching their fifth consecutive regular season shutout. Holy Cow!!!

This was to be a measuring stick for the Knights, so for the details of the game see And the answer is......

Game 1: Kaneland 42 Marengo 0

It didn't take long for the Knights to start making a statement about this year's team as on the first series of downs LB Kurt Long stepped in front of a wayward Indian pass for a pick and ran 43 yards for Kaneland's first TD of the season.

It took just 74 seconds for the Knights to score and as they say, "from there the rest is history."

Knights Win Round 4
beating Hall 40-21

Trailing for the first time all year at half time 21-20, the Knights came out in the third quarter and showed the folks from Spring Valley what Kaneland football is all about by scoring 3 touchdowns in less than seven minutes, while holding the Red Devils to a minus 20 yards for the quarter.

In the first half the Red Devils lived up to their name as they gave the Knights the scare of the year. But in the second half the Knights defense stepped up to the challenge and slammed the door shut.

Congratulations to Hall for a truly great football team.

Knights win Round 3
21-6

As the seniors left the field for the last time they knew they had left behind a statement of excellence to be remembered for years to come as they won their 26th straight game, beating Evergreen Park for the second time this year, 21-6.

But it wasn't easy as the Knights lead only 7-6 at half and Evergreen Park proved to be as tough an opponent as the Knights have faced in those 26 games.

For game details see: Home Sweet Home.

For other playoff scores of interest see Round three scores.

Knights win Round 2
41-28

It wasn't a normal Kaneland game as the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs would not go away. Whenever the Knights thought they had the game in hand the never-say-die Bulldogs would come right back at them.

But, leading only 19-14 a half the Knights prevailed winning 41-28, earning the rights to host Evergreen Park at home Saturday night at 6:00.

In what was the longest drive of the year and longest game of the year, the Bulldogs proved to be the most determined team of the year.

For game details see: What a Trip.

For other playoff scores of interest see Round two scores.

Knights win Round 1
54-9

The Knights went into the first game of the playoffs confident, and it showed, as they systematically ended the season for the Wilmington Wildcats, 54-9.

That's 16 touchdowns and 109 points scored in the last two games. Moreover, that's 24 straight wins. What more can this team do?

How about average over nine yards a play? Or how about Eric Delaney, Kyle Schrader, and P.J. Fleck each having over 225 yards of total offense?

For game details see: One down and four to go.
