Round 2

Kaneland Advances to Round 3
for the FIRST TIME EVER

Kaneland scored two touchdowns in each quarter to beat the Byron Tigers 56-21 and advance to the quarter finals of the IHSA playoffs for the first time in the schools' history. Kaneland drew first blood, when Eric Delaney capped a 63 yard drive with a QB keeper for a touchdown. But when the Tigers got the ball they marched 80-yards down field and tied it at 7. It took Kyle Schrader just 14 seconds to get it back as he scored from 54 yards out after a Luke Peterson 25 yard kickoff return for a 14-7 lead.

In the second quarter Ryan West crossed pay dirt on a 37 yard screen pass and the Knights had a 21-7 lead. But the Tigers scored on another long (62-yard) drive. This time they missed the extra point for a 27-13 score. Again it took the Knights just 58 seconds to revenge the score when Billy McKeown caught a 67 yard pass and Kaneland was up 28-13 at half.

In the second half Kaneland controlled the game, with West scoring two more TD's, McKeown adding his second TD, and Kurt Long running for a TD. With the score 56-13 the running clock kicked in and so did Kaneland second team with 7:30 minutes remaining. The Tigers scored a token touchdown with 6 minutes left for the final score. Matt Gladd was 8 for 8 in PAT's.
