Boys Season Preview

The Knights have a legacy to uphold after finishing in the top 10 at the class A state meet the last five years, including a second place finish last year. Now, however, they'll compete in Class AA.

Kaneland, under the direction of coach Chad Clarey, will try to fill the shoes of Al Griffin and Conor Gibbons, who both graduated. Seniors Henery Norris and Chris Clark will lead the Knights and juniors Dustin Long and Scott Walgamotte also return.

Junior Mick Eck and Senior Mike Clark should also contribute as the Knights try to repeat as Suburban Prairie White champions.

September 2nd St. Charles Invitational
Our team had its best showing at St. Charles today. Varsity 6th and Fresh/Soph 3rd were nice accomplishments. I'd image this was one of the toughest meets of the weekend, and the weather didn't help matters. Still, to put 10 of our 17 runners under 18 minutes in the first invite of the year was pleasing. I can see that we have some things to work on before the Eddington Invitational in two weeks.

Norris (11th) and Clark (25th) managed a nice 1-2 punch. First year runner Mike Eck (39th) is doing an outstanding job of learning pace and strategy, and applying it. Jon Heckert and Scott Walgamotte finished up our scoring, each with fine performances. Another outstanding race was completed by first year senior Mike Clark, 17:57 is a great time for his second meet.

At the fresh/soph level, Aaron Etienne (6th), David Stouffer (8th), and Keith Kriglstein (12th) worked to earn a 3rd place team finish. Once our freshmen get in shape, they're going to be tough to beat. Overall, I'm glad we made it through the day healthy and with good learning experiences against tough AA competition.

September 5th  Meet
Boys Girls
"..great performances to key the win"

23 pts. Kaneland
69 pts. Central
72 pts. East Aurora
77 pts. Streamwood

"Our team did a great job of packing up, running in pairs. Each boy improved anywhere from fifteen to fifty seconds. Dustin Long, Jon Heckert, Mike Eck and Scott Walgamotte are all closing the gap on Norris. That only makes us better. I thought Jon Zielinski and Pat Albrecht did an awesome job on the last two miles.

Our frosh/soph team stepped up to the challenge of being a man down. Brian Long and Jeff Jendrzejczyk had great performances to key the win." - Chad Clarey

"..happy to get first win."

45 pts. Kaneland
46 pts. Central
96 pts. East Aurora

"We're very happy to get our first win. Every single runner improved their time on the same course from one week ago. Kristi Reynolds' kick in the last 100 meters, passing two runners, helped seal the narrow victory." - Doug Ecker
