St Francis 58 Kaneland 47

"They really stuck it to us and we had trouble even getting into our offense," said first year coach Dennis Hansen.

The Lady Knight's varsity opened up their season against St Francis losing to a strong defensive team. The opening minute was typical of many season openers as the teams combined for five turnovers. Deb Lang started the scoring 1:40 into the game, but it was Kaneland's only bucket of the first quarter.

The visitors could manage just two baskets of their own in second quarter. However, the Lady Knight's were down 14 points at the half. Kaneland had a strong third quarter scoring 13 points to the Spartan's 10, but the Knights could not close in as they lost 47-58.

"When we got into our offense in the second half we started scoring," said first year coach Dennis Hansen. "They really stuck it to us and we had trouble even getting into our offense."

The Lady Knights were led by Junior Deb Lang with 18 points, followed by Jamie Zylinski with 11, Addie Sauber with 7, and Stacey Lettow with 6 . Deb Lang and Stacey Lettow each had 5 rebounds.

Kaneland 57 Riverside Brookfield 29

"We were playing outstanding defense, moving our feet, and really pressuring them," said coach Dennis Hansen.

Good defense and relentless pressure proved that the Lady Knights could dominate the Bulldogs in the season home opener. The Lady Knights outscored R-B in each quarter forcing the Bulldogs into poor shot selection and many turnovers. Coach Hansen was pleased in the teams performance emphasizing the contributions of all players and the quality defense that the team played. "We were playing outstanding defense, moving our feet, and really pressuring them."

Mary Richardson and Stacy Lettow led the Lady Knights with 10 points each followed by Deb Lang with 9 and Corri Kainz with 7. Alex Self had 6 assists.

Batavia Tournament

Kaneland 47 Sycamore 35

Batavia and Kaneland both came up winners in the first round of the Batavia Tournament. Batavia beat Aurora Centra Catholic 59-25 and Kaneland stopping Sycamore 47-35.

Kaneland jumped off to a 21-10 halftime lead and then played the Spartans even the rest of way.

Stacy Lettow led Kaneland's win with 13 points, while Addie Sauber had 9 rebounds and three steals. The Lady Knights moved to 2-1 overall.


Batavia 53 Kaneland 24

The Batavia Bulldogs took a big bite out the Lady Knights winning by 29 points. The Bulldogs led 16-4 after one quarter and a whopping 31-11 after two. The Knights where never in the game. Three players scored in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs as they beat Kaneland in round 2 of the Batavia Tournament 53-24.

The Batavia Bulldogs took a big bite out the Lady Knights winning by 29 points.

Stacy Lettow lead the Knights with 7 points and nobody else had more than 4. Alicia Brown had 6 boards and 4 steals. Alex Self had 4 rebounds and 4 assists.


Kaneland 43 Aurora Central Catholic 19

Kaneland won the consolation round of the Batavia Tournament by easily beating ACC 43-19.

The Knights were led by Deb Lang with 11 points followed by Addie Sauber with 6 points and Mandy Piscitelli, Mary Richardson, and Jamie Zylinski each with 5 points.

Glenbard South 52 Kaneland 42

The Lady Knights played a close first quarter as Glenbard South visited Kaneland. But the Knights allowed the Raiders to pull away in the second quarter scoring 25 points to Kaneland's 18. Trailing 34-26 to start the second half the Knights couldn't catch up.

Deb Lang led the Knights with 12 points followed by Jamie Zylinski with 9 and Karen Poole with 6. Lang and Addie Sauber had 7 rebounds each. Zylinski had 6 boards and 5 steals to go along with her 9 points. This loss brings the Lady Knight's record to 3-3

Kaneland 52 Sycamore 40

"It was a good way to start off the conference season," coach Dennis Hanson said.

Both teams scored 5 more points than their earlier meeting this year, but the results where the same - Kaneland winning by a dozen. The victory boosts the Lady Knights's record to 4-3 and 1-0 in the conference.

Kaneland used its pressure defense to run out to a 15-7 first quarter lead before Sycamore closed the gap to six at halftime, 28-22. The Lady Knights pulled away down the stretch as their constant in-your-face defense wore down the opposition.

Deb Lang lead the Knights with 12 points. Jamie Zylinskei added 11 points with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Addie Sauber had 10 points 6 boards and 2 steals. Point guard Alex Self had 9 assist.

Yorkville 48 Kaneland 38

Against Yorkville, the Lady Knights were constantly on the bubble between being in a close game and being in a blowout. Kaneland kept in it, however, and stayed within 12 points in the 48-36 loss.

"We just didn't do the things we needed to do. We got so out of control on offense. And the shots weren't going in which compounded things," said coach Dennis Hansen.

"I don't think it was a very good effort by us at all," said Hansen.

Turnovers and poor decisions led to the Lady Knights demise. "I don't think it was a very good effort by us at all," said Hansen. "We weren't mentally into it, it seemed like. I think our patience hurt us more than anything."

Deb Lang led the Knights with 17 points and 3 rebounds. Stacy Lettow added 6 more points.

Kaneland 54 Westmont 42

The Lady Knights exploded to a 31-18 halftime lead before leveling off in the second half. As a result the Kaneland easily beat Westmont 54-42.

"We ran our offense really well," said coach Dennis Hansen. "We got good looks at the basket and we shot well."

Debbie Lang lead the Knights again with 15 points, followed by Jamie Zylinski, who stepped it up with 10 point to go with her team leading 4 rebounds. Stacy Lettow had 3 assist and 3 steals to include with her 7 points. Jenny Baert, Mary Richardson, and Addie Sauber had six points each.

Marian Central 39 Kaneland 35

Kaneland lead at halftime over Marian Central 19-17, but a five point difference in the final quarter resulted in a Kaneland loss 39-35.

In the low scoring affair only two Knights had over 4 points.

Kaneland drew Marian in the first round of the Genoa-Kingston Christmas Tournament.

Kaneland 46 Sycamore 37

The Knights played Sycamore for the third time this season and good thing, because the Lady Knights won for the third time 46-37. The three wins account for half of Kaneland's wins as they pushed their record to 6-5.

Kaneland put the game away in the third period after they went into halftime tied at 19. They outscored their opponents by a score of 16-5 in the decisive period. The win left the Lady Knights 1-1 for the Genoa-Kingston Tournament.

"I think it was our best game of the year so far," coach Dennis Hansen commented.

Stacey Lettow scored 7 of her team leading 13 points in the tide-turning third period. She also collected 6 rebounds.

"Lettow had a really big third quarter. She got some good looks at the basket and made some big shots along with some good defense," said Hanson.


Kaneland 49 Genoa Kingston 37

The Genoa Kingston Cogs jumped out an quick lead outscoring the Lady Knights 12-7 in the first quarter and had a 23-19 lead at halftime. But the Lady's from Kaneland came out in the second half and crushed the cogs, outscoring them 30-11 in the second half for a powerful 49-37 win.

The win over the Tournament Host earned the Knights second place for the tournament with 2 wins and only one loss.

Kaneland (7-5), takes the win into the Christmas break, as they have 10 days off.

Deb Lang led Kaneland with a 17 point, 8 rebounds, and 8 assist performance. Addie Sauber added 13 points to go with her 6 rebounds and 6 assists, while Jamie Zylinski chipped in 7 points, had 4 boards and 4 assists.

Kaneland end the first of the season 7-5. The now enter the Christmas break with 10 days off.
